Guest Lecturing in Tampa, Discount Car Rental, and the Beach

Every now and then, my work requires travel. This time, my adventures took me to Tampa. I was asked to be a guest lecturer at the University of South Florida to a group of freshman as an introduction to Marketing. I love traveling, but one of the things I always do is make sure to do is save as much money as possible. A while ago, I became a member of the U-Save Club specifically for these types of events that require me to find a discount car rental. U-Save happens to have a Tampa car rental location that is close to the airport.I got a great rate on a hotel and flight and I was ready to go to Tampa.

Since this was a freshman class, I kept things very general. Students have a hard time applying concepts from the text book to real life anyway. So I thought about discussing target markets and how to construct messages accordingly.Since students are on Facebook, I thought I’d use social media as an example of how businesses are reaching out to target markets.

My lecture began with a definition of target markets. I started off by going over the general idea and then breaking down a target market socioeconomically.I use college students as my target market example since they can relate.In all my lectures, I always focus hard on not selling a product or service, but rather constructing messages to convince the target market that a company’s products or services is the best option. How is that done? Well, by solving some sort of problem. I go over creating a target market user profile, which the class and I did together. Out of that, I go over how a company can use social media to communicate and promote market messages.

But enough about my lecture. While in Tampa, I spent some time having fun. A fellow Romanian lives in Tampa so my Tampa car rental came in handy for visits. She took me down to the Tampa Bay and sun bathed. Living in Washington State, I don’t get to tan that often. I’ll got a nice tan while I was there. And being such shopping rich area, I worked some retail therapy into my visit. Since I saved with a discount car rental from U-Save, I had plenty of cash left over to pick up a few things in Tampa.
